The short answer is ‘It depends’.
The long answer is somewhat more complicated. Some countries or states within countries require hypnotherapists to have medical training or advanced degrees before they are allowed to practice as a Hypnotherapist. In these places hypnotherapy is tightly controlled and this is often because of a misunderstanding of what hypnosis is and what it can do or because of some historic legal case.
Other countries are much more lenient and anyone can stick up a sign and say that they are a Hypnotherapist without any training. In these countries Hypnosis is often seen as a bit of a scam or just fakery and the public are left to decide where to put their hard earned cash.
If you are concerned about your Hypnotherapist then I suggest that you check out their professional qualifications and it’s probably a good idea to steer clear of any hypnotherapist offering less professional services.
